Things are moving slowly over here.  This current scene is coming together bit by it but with all of the things going on at the moment, it has taken a bit longer to get my pages drawn.  So I am hoping the page will update this weekend.  Hang tight everyone!  Appreciate the patience.

First Copy Of Book Is In

July 16th, 2010 | by Michael Regina

Guess what I got in the mail yesterday?  That’s right…

It looks great!   There’s a few things I caugh though that n eed to be corrected and the sizing of the images needs to be fixed for almost every page.  There were a few spots that are cut off and would be on all future volumes too, so I need to fix that.  But the quality of the printing done by the guys at Ka-Blam is great and I can’t wait to send the new files and get copies out to folks.  I’ll post a short video this weekend too to show you what the  book looks like.

Digital Painting

April 20th, 2010 | by Michael Regina

Something I probably don’t talk about enough here is that I do traditional style painting as well.  Something I should probably do more of really.  Well I started doodling around creating a traditional style painting using digital tools and this is the result of my first test!  Honestly I’m very proud of it.  I feel like it came out pretty darn good.  Well, I’m looking to start doing a lot more of this sort of thing.  If you’ve never done so, please drop by my studio website:  www.michaeleregina.com

Kevin And The Light Of Destiny

April 4th, 2010 | by Michael Regina

I love, love love a good treasure hunter story. I love it! Two of my favorite movies of late have been the new National Treasure films and the always dependable Indiana Jones series. And now I am in love with the Uncharted game series. Recently a buddy of mine, Josh Ulrich, started up his own treasure hunter series called Jacki Rose. It’s great fun and I highly recommend checking it out. But around a year ago I began writing and drawing a story called Kevin and The Golden Temple. It was a short story in the same vein as an Indiana Jones series but with a young twist and a dash more fantasy. At the time it was intended to be a short story, about 60 pages in total. As I kind of worked through the details of what the story was I saw a much better and more complex story I could tell. Unfortunately, or fortunately I guess, the project fell apart and I was left with this short, badly paced story (I had to compress the whole thing down to like 20 pages). I really fell in love with the adventure and characters I was creating and actually this was the idea I was going to turn into my next online project. Then The King’s Game happened and I started working on the pitch for that project. And if you have been following me in the past you know that my previous agent left the firm I am signed on with and that left me to transition to another agent. Through much conversation with her, she basically answered what I had been feeling all along: I just need to actually finish a project and then we can go submit to publishers. Basically, I’m not at a point where pitching a book makes a lot of sense. I have no finished works to my credit, I only have pitches and ultimately very little presence in the bigger comics world. So, how can I expect a publisher to get on board with me?

This took a bit of time to swallow, though I knew it was true. She asked that I work some more on The King’s Game, but ultimately started debating whether that was the best project for my new found devotion to completing projects. Thus the Kevin story reered its head again.

This story about Kevin is a blast of a tale. Adventure, fantasy, humor and other worlds await our little treasure hunter and I felt that this project most speaks to the audience I want to right now and because of the story structure I can actually finish chunk of it faster and have completed material to show to everyone. Basically the book will divided into three installments at about 100 pages each. Targeted at a younger audience and I will be looking to put out one volume a year. I am planning on issuing this online as a webcomic so, that will be coming up online by the end of this current month.

Sorry if anyone out there was jonesin for some King’s Game. I am very much excited about that book, but the tone, length and spirit of the material is just not something I feel ready to tell yet. It will be on the docket for the next go round. But for now, as Josh and I say all of the time now, make books son!

So, I will be updating later about the exciting adventure of Kevin and the Light of Destiny.

New Bi-Weekly Comments Contest

March 9th, 2010 | by Michael Regina
Posted In: Uncategorized

Well, we all like free art right?  I know I do.  And I want to try and put some in your hands.  All I ask in return is to hear more from you guys, my readers!  So what I have put together is a bi-weekly contest that’s entry is as simple as leaving a nice, thoughtful comment on that week’s newest page update.  Each Sunday I upload the latest page in our ongoing saga of world salvation and every two weeks I will choose one person at random from the comments that have been left to receive a free drawing from me.  The drawing will be completed on bristol board and will be sized 4×6inches.   Pencil and ink.  And to top it all off, I’ll let you choose the character I draw.   Within one month of winning, I will ship out the drawing and that nice man who usually brings you bills and junk will have a nice shiny drawing from me!  Sounds like good times to me!  So, please, leave your thoughts on the book, the page, the site and get up on this!

So, here’s how it works.  On the home page you’ll find the latest page posted and you’ll be able to post comments regarding that page.  You will need to respond to that new page to be entered.  The post doesn’t need to be about this contest, in fact it shouldn’t be.  Just talk about the content of the comic with other readers.  At the end of that week, everyone who posted a comment during the week will entered into the contest for the next drawing.  This will go in two week increments and then I will randomly select one person from those who posted.  That person will then we contacted to let me know what you would like for me to draw.  Simple enough!

Comments will be subject to approval.  So what that means is, no one word comments, spam, foul language (I like to run a clean place around here) or just plain old crude remarks.  I want this to be a way to get to know you guys more, so say hello and win some art!

My good buddy, Josh Ulrich has started up his new webcomic, “Jackie Rose.”  It’s a fun adventure style comic of the highest order and it’s been a lot of fun watching the development of the book and now to finally see it reach fruition online.  If you enjoy Indiana Jones type adevnture (I know I do!) witha  new kick, swing by and let him know what you think.  I know he’d appreciate your feedback!
